Tell Congress to Authorize Voluntary Grazing Permit Retirement

Dear Guardian,

Federal trappers could at any moment capture and permanently incarcerate the alpha female of the Fox Mountain Mexican wolf pack—another wolf convicted of committing the crime of killing livestock.

The capture order is just the latest in an endless succession of taxpayer-subsidized management actions intended to preserve grazing in wolf country.

Enough is enough!

Mexican wolf recovery could fail unless we reform the federal grazing program. Wolves need room to roam. We must end livestock grazing in the Mexican wolf recovery area wherever possible.

Tell Congress to give Mexican wolves a fighting chance by authorizing a program to retire public lands grazing permits.

WildEarth Guardians has identified a number of ranchers in the Greater Gila who would willingly retire their grazing permits, if only Congress would allow them to do so. A solution is now within reach. The Rural Economic Vitalization Act, introduced last year, would allow federal grazing permittees to voluntarily relinquish their grazing permits back to the federal government in exchange for compensation paid by a third party.

Voluntary grazing permit retirement is a win-win-win solution for ranchers, taxpayers, and, most importantly, Mexican wolves.

Please join us in urging your Congressional representative to enact REVA and save Mexican wolf recovery.

After sending your letter to Congress, please also urge the Forest Service to adopt WildEarth Guardians proposal to retire four key grazing allotments on the Gila National Forest to provide Mexican wolves more room to roam on public lands.
