Wildlife Policy Reform
In the West many wildlife species such as coyotes, black bears, bobcats, and mountain lions go virtually unprotected. Yet each plays its vital role in the web of life.
These species face habitat loss in the wake of suburban sprawl, oil and gas drilling, logging, ski area expansions, and over hunting. For example, mountain lions once boasted the broadest geographic distribution of any terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere. Now they inhabit only 50 percent of their historic range in the U.S. and Canada.
WildEarth Guardians watchdogs government agencies to ensure environmental laws protecting wildlife are being followed. Working with policy-makers on the federal, state, and local level, WildEarth Guardians also advocates for stricter regulations in order to safeguard the West's iconic species and the whole web of life.
