Promoting Appropriate Renewables

WildEarth Guardians is promoting renewable energy projects through policy measures and research that will show a clear path from our current use of dirty and dangerous fossil fuels to a clean energy future.  We no longer need to use the 19th century technology of coal-fired power plants to meet our electric needs.

While relatively minor impacts to wildlife and wild place still exist, appropriate renewable energy can allow us to live more harmoniously with our environment in a new energy economy.  Renewable energy includes using the sun to generate electricity or heat water and using modern, efficient wind turbines to produce electricity without air pollution or consuming water. 

Wind energy alone in the Four Corners states has the potential to produce five times as much electricity as those states currently consume.  The potential for using solar energy is almost limitless.  For example, using today’s technology, we would only need to cover less than 2/10ths of one percent of New Mexico’s land area with solar PV panels in order to meet the whole state’s current electric needs.
